Split - Split Rock, Clachtoll Bay, Assynt, Sutherland
On a really blustery and cold March evening, a great deal of patience was required as I sat behind a sand bank, sheltered from the howling wind, waiting for snow showers to pass and the clouds to break. An hour or so passed before they did, to allow the sun to shine on Split Rock in Clachtoll Bay. The bay most likely takes its name from this large broken rock, the remains of a natural arch. In gaelic: "clach" is "rock" and "toll" means "hole".
